Recovery Tools That Are Actually Worth Buying

Recovery is one of those areas where marketing runs way ahead of reality. A lot of what’s sold as “recovery” doesn’t do much. But some of it genuinely helps — and if you train hard, sit at a desk all day, or have ever dealt with an injury, having the right tools in place makes a real difference.

These are the ones I actually use.

THERAGUN PRO PLUS

I literally couldn’t function without this. I bought it after a bad car accident a few years ago and it’s been part of my routine ever since. The difference between working through muscle tension with a real massage gun versus without one is significant — the motor quality and consistency under pressure is not the same as cheaper alternatives. If you’re going to invest in one recovery tool, this is it.

TENNIS BALLS

It doesn’t always need to be fancy or expensive to work. Tennis balls are one of the most effective tools for self-myofascial release — especially for the feet, glutes, and upper back. Sit on one, roll on one, put two in a sock along the spine. The applications are wide and the price is almost nothing. I keep a few around the house and use them regularly.

CUPPING MASSAGER (2-PACK)

Cupping increases blood flow to tight areas and helps the recovery process move along. This two-pack covers different areas of the body and is a good entry point if you’ve never tried cupping before. It takes a little getting used to but the results are real, especially for stubborn spots that massage alone doesn’t reach.

XL WEIGHTED HEATING PAD

Heat is one of the most straightforward recovery tools there is — it increases blood flow, relaxes muscle tissue, and eases stiffness. The weighted design stays in place instead of sliding around, which matters when you’re trying to actually rest and let it work. XL size means it covers your lower back or both shoulders at once, which standard heating pads can’t do.

REUSABLE HOT AND COLD PACKS
https://amzn.to/4eFECgb

Cold therapy for acute soreness after intense training, heat for chronic tightness — having both in one reusable pack is practical and worth keeping around. These hold temperature longer than cheaper versions and are flexible enough to conform to whatever area you’re targeting.

STRETCHING STRAP
https://amzn.to/4vGinfT

Flexibility work is the thing most people skip and most people eventually regret skipping. A stretching strap takes assisted stretching from something you need a class or a partner for to something you can do alone on your floor in ten minutes. The difference in range of motion with consistent use is real.

MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE
https://amzn.to/4v6lUDm

This one matters more than most people realize — and getting the right type actually matters. A lot of people don’t know there are many forms of magnesium and they are not all created equal. Glycinate is the form that absorbs well, supports both muscle recovery and sleep quality, and doesn’t cause the digestive issues that other forms are known for. If you train consistently and aren’t already taking magnesium, this is worth looking into.

Recovery doesn’t have to be complicated. Good sleep, consistent hydration, and a few tools that actually do something go further than most people expect. These are mine.
